How to get the most out of your psychedelic experience
The essential elements of a rewarding psychedelic experience.
The essential element to a rewarding psychedelic experience is devotion, surrender, or letting go. Surrender and acceptance of what is shown to us, and what we feel within ourselves, and letting go of the things we hold onto. It is naturally much more straightforward to describe the process rather than face the pain if it’s about taboo areas of our lives or if it contradicts what we thought we knew about the world. Maybe large and rigid belief or ideology systems are about to fall apart within us, or we might have been told what to do or not to do as kids, which limits us from living the lives we were destined to live. Our inner core, where our unique qualities might unfold, is usually “covered up” by layers created and defined by the conditions we grew up in, societal norms, or morals.
Psychedelics and managing expectations.
However, it is essential to note that you shouldn’t feel “guilt” or not being “good enough” if the result of the psychedelic experience didn’t turn out the way you expected it to. It might take a while for your system to relax and “go with the flow.” Experienced “travelers” within psychedelics frequently learn new aspects about themselves, the world, and the ideal setting to “go with the flow” even after tenfold of psychedelic experiences. As described above, there is an inner connection between each psychedelic journey. Each psychedelic experience is the key to your journey. We recommend not judging the process by an isolated experience but seeing it as a part of a larger picture.
Physical and psychological resistance.
Our breath is essential to natural “letting go” and going with the flow. By being conscious about this during your psychedelic journey—especially the first half, where we are increasingly going with the flow—we can often become aware that we used the breath to hold back. By being conscious of this phenomenon, we can let go of another deeper layer, and the potentially painful pain we are experiencing will dissolve and transform.
We are also using the body to hold on to our everyday consciousness and, therefore, to prevent from falling deeper within ourselves than comfort naturally allows us to. Be conscious of this if you buckle up in certain muscle groups – or other body parts. By consciously entering this area, using the topical muscles actively for a few minutes, and after that, letting this area relax can allow you to fall deeper within and get even more out of your psychedelic journey.
Trouble of letting go.
A few clients have a difficult time letting go and going with the flow with the psychedelic experience (our experience estimates that this will be the case in roughly 5% of the clients). This is typically about the fundamental need to be in control, which is more strongly bodily manifested within that individual than the average individual. The resistance can emerge as more significant or minor degrees of physical discomfort. Examples include pressure within the chest, nausea, or pain in various body parts. This is also completely normal, won’t do you any harm, and is usually bypassed within the first hour of the psychedelic journey. When the “body armor” lets go of the control, you will usually experience incredible relief and pleasure.
Dosage and the degree of control within your psychedelic journey.
The first part of the psychedelic journey can be experienced as confusing, especially if this is your first time having a psychedelic experience. Then, it’s important to note that there isn’t anything you are supposed to do or try to force to happen. Embrace what you experience with an open mind and curiosity, and just let the music lead the way. Let it wake up emotions and sensations within yourself.
Quite a few are surprised by the level of control and choices you possess while experiencing a psychedelic journey. You can avoid going to the area that calls your attention. Still, all resistance will generally make the trip more demanding than accepting what is emerging and letting yourself go.
On the higher dosages, we can experience being put on a rollercoaster of emotions, sensations, and visions, and we don’t always possess the option to control speed or direction within the psychedelic journey.
Dosage for your first psychedelic experience.
For your first psychedelic experience, we will usually recommend a level of dosage to allow for a certain degree of being in control. By going with the flow, trust, and your own will, you can fall into what occurs to be challenging rather than being pulled by the neck and thrown in.
The dosage will still have to be strong enough for you to experience more than lots of playful colors and figures, which isolated doesn’t make much sense to you. The crucial part of the psychedelic journey is what’s happening within our emotions, bodies, and thoughts—where meaning occurs. This is the state where each accord in a musical play is perceived as something of significance within your life.
You will agree on your preferred dosage on the day of your psychedelic journey, along with your trip sitter.
